Afrobeats singer Sarah “Ayra Starr” Aderibigbe has shared why she decided to relocate to New York, the United States’ most populous city. In a viral interview on Hot 93.7, Hartfold, the 23-year-old revealed that she had always felt connected to the city and enjoyed performing there.

Ayra Starr explained that New York reminds her of Lagos and has a large African diaspora, which makes her feel at home. She described her decision to move as a natural progression, saying, “I really like it here. I might actually move here… It just felt amazing.”

The singer emphasized that relocating does not mean abandoning her culture. She remains focused on her priorities and is determined to advance her career while carrying Afrobeats and her heritage to the global stage. “I moved in to broaden my sound and just to make my people proud around the world. I want to carry my culture wherever I go,” she said. Ayra Starr added that Afrobeats is not just a genre for her, but a core part of her identity, and she intends to showcase it internationally.
