Nollywood actor Laide Olabanji has sparked discussion after drawing a comparison between the administration of President Bola Tinubu and former Anambra State governor Peter Obi.
Olabanji, in a statement circulating on social media, posed a hypothetical question about who Nigerians would trust to manage a large company, using the scenario to compare the current government with Obi.
“If you have a big company, whether you built it or you inherit it and you want to give it to someone to help you manage it, who would you give it to between this current government that’s handling Nigeria or Peter Obi? In whose hands do you think your company will be safe?” he asked.
The actor’s comments come amid ongoing political discussions ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections, with political parties and their supporters increasingly debating the records, policies and leadership credentials of various political figures.
Olabanji’s analogy frames the political debate around the question of trust and management of public resources, inviting Nigerians to consider the leadership qualities they would prioritise when choosing those to manage the country.
Peter Obi, who contested the 2023 presidential election on the Labour Party platform, has remained a prominent figure in Nigeria’s political discourse ahead of the 2027 elections.
President Tinubu, meanwhile, has continued to defend his administration’s policies and reforms since assuming office in May 2023.
