Abaribe Demands Probe Into Withdrawal of Troops Before Kebbi School Kidnapping

Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe has called on President Bola Tinubu to hold military authorities accountable for the withdrawal of troops from a school in Kebbi State shortly before students were abducted by bandits.

Speaking during a parliamentary session, Abaribe referenced a public statement by the Governor of Kebbi, who alleged that security personnel were ordered to leave the school, creating a security vacuum that enabled the attackers to strike.

“The governor of Kebbi said that somebody ordered the troops out, and people were kidnapped. Till today, nobody in Nigeria knows what happened. No questions have been asked,” Abaribe said. “We are sitting down as parliament, talking and talking, yet somebody is responsible.”

The senator insisted that the President must set a clear example by identifying and punishing the commander who authorised the withdrawal, stressing that accountability within the security system is crucial for preventing future attacks.

Abaribe warned that without decisive action, similar lapses will continue to undermine national security and erode public confidence in the government’s ability to protect citizens.
