Fubara’s APC Defection Hits Snag Amid Rivers Impeachment Crisis

Indications have emerged that the All Progressives Congress (APC) may not be ready to organise an official ceremonial defection for Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, amid growing political tension in the state.

Sources within the party disclosed that the APC National Chairman has reportedly backed down on plans for a formal reception of the governor, despite alleged efforts by Fubara and his associates to secure a high-profile defection ceremony similar to those organised for governors of Bayelsa, Delta, Akwa Ibom and other states that recently joined the ruling party.

According to insiders, Governor Fubara recently met with the APC National Chairman to lobby for an official defection ceremony. However, the party chairman was said to have informed the governor that he had not received the necessary authorisation to proceed with such an event.

The development has further deepened uncertainty around the governor’s political future, particularly as he continues to grapple with impeachment proceedings initiated by the Rivers State House of Assembly.

Political observers say the absence of a formal defection ceremony may signal unresolved internal dynamics within the APC concerning Fubara’s entry into the party, or a cautious approach by the party leadership in light of the ongoing political crisis in Rivers State.

Neither the APC leadership nor Governor Fubara’s camp has officially commented on the matter as of the time of filing this report.
