The House of Representatives Committee on Science and Engineering has threatened to recommend zero allocation to the National Centre for Technology Management, NACETEM, in the 2026 budget and to seek the removal of its Director-General, Dr. Olushola Odusanya, over his failure to appear for budget defence in Abuja.
Chairman of the committee, Inuwa Garba, stepped down consideration of the agency’s proposal, warning that persistent disregard for legislative invitations would attract sanctions.
The committee also faulted the 2026 budget proposal of the Nigerian Council of Food Science and Technology, NiCFOST, expressing dissatisfaction with its 2025 performance and low internally generated revenue, which stood at N385,000 in 2024 and N285,860 in 2025.
Lawmakers questioned the sharp rise in overheads from N95.40 million in 2025 to N195.73 million in 2026.
Registrar of NiCFOST, Veronica Nkechi-Eze, said the council’s revenue comes from registration fees and annual dues from about 10,000 members but could not justify the increase in overhead costs.
