Herdsmen Attack Students of Nnamdi Azikiwe University,

Tension gripped Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra State, after unidentified attackers, suspected to be herdsmen, reportedly assaulted students on Sunday night.

The victims, said to be mostly first-year students, were on their way to a night lesson around 9pm along Ifite Road when the incident occurred. In the chaos, a male student sustained severe injuries and was rushed to Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital, Amaku.

According to reports shared by the victim’s family, three of his fingers were cut off while he tried to defend himself. His twin sister was also wounded. An alarm raised by the sister reportedly attracted help from passersby who rushed him to the hospital before security operatives were alerted.

University officials, including the Dean of Student Affairs and the Chief Security Officer, were said to have visited the victims. The institution’s Acting Director of Information and Public Relations confirmed the attack and noted that security measures have been activated.

This heartbreaking development has sparked fresh concerns about student safety, especially along isolated routes around campus. Students are urged to avoid lonely paths at night and move in groups where possible.
