A Nigerian man has sparked reactions online after announcing the closure of his United Bank for Africa (UBA) domiciliary accounts following the public endorsement of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s ongoing reforms by billionaire businessman, Tony Elumelu.
In a statement shared on social media, the man said he operated two foreign currency (FCY) accounts with United Bank for Africa one in his name and another in his wife’s. According to him, during a recent visit home, he withdrew all the funds in both accounts and proceeded to close them.

Explaining his decision, he stated that while individuals are free to support or belong to any political party, endorsing a “questionable candidate” was a red line for him. He described the move as a personal protest following comments by Tony Elumelu, the chairman of UBA, in support of the economic reforms introduced by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
