Rivers Assembly Stops Impeachment Proceeding against Fubara, Deputy

Fubara

The Rivers State House of Assembly has reportedly stopped its impeachment proceedings against the state governor, Siminalayi Fubara, and his deputy, Prof. Ngozi Odu.

This is coming days after President Bola Tinubu’s intervention in the reignited political tension in the state.

Tinubu had earlier this week summoned Fubara and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, for the settlement of their feud amid the impeachment plot against the governor by the Rivers Assembly led by Speaker Martin Amaewhule, a loyalist of the FCT Minister Wike.

In the course of the meeting, Tinubu ordered the immediate suspension of the impeachment plot against the Rivers governor while urging Wike to desist from further instigating the impeachment plot against Fubara.

Wike, in reaction, charged the Rivers Assembly to adhere to the President’s directive.

Effectively, the Assembly would on Thursday drop the impeachment proceeding.
