The Nigerian Senate has been struck by tragedy once again with the death of Senator Barinada Mpigi, the representative of Rivers South-East Senatorial District in the 10th National Assembly.
Until his passing, Senator Mpigi served as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Works, contributing actively to plenary discussions, particularly on issues of national development and environmental governance in the Niger Delta region.
A seasoned lawmaker and close political ally of Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, Senator Mpigi had recently defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), highlighting his evolving political journey.
His death marks the fourth serving senator to pass away since the inauguration of the 10th Senate in June 2023, a development that has cast a somber mood over the National Assembly.
