Peter Obi Labels Fuel Subsidy “Organised Crime,” Demands Transparency

Peter Obi

Former Anambra State Governor and Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has reiterated his strong opposition to fuel subsidy, describing it as “organised crime.”

Obi made the statement while speaking on economic issues, maintaining that the subsidy regime has long been riddled with corruption and inefficiencies.

According to him, Nigeria’s fuel consumption figures and subsidy payments have often been inconsistent with realities, suggesting systemic leakages and misuse of public funds.

The former presidential candidate stated that, if given the opportunity to lead, he would not tolerate any form of financial malpractice, stressing that public resources must be transparently managed for national development.

Obi has consistently maintained over the years that while subsidy removal is necessary, it must be implemented with proper planning, transparency, and measures to cushion the impact on citizens.

His comments come amid ongoing national debates over fuel subsidy removal and its impact on the Nigerian economy and cost of living.
