Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Federal Executive Council for approving Phase 1A of the Lagos Green Line Rail Project.

In a statement, the governor described the approval as a major milestone in the state’s transportation development, noting that the Green Line will span about 68 kilometres, connecting Marina to the Lekki Free Trade Zone.

According to him, the rail line will feature approximately 17 stations across key locations, including Victoria Island, Ajah, and the Lekki corridor, significantly improving connectivity within the state.

Sanwo-Olu added that the project is expected to serve up to 500,000 passengers daily at inception, with the capacity to scale up to about one million passengers over time. He noted that the system will be able to move as many as 35,000 passengers per hour in each direction, easing traffic congestion and reducing travel time across Lagos.

The governor emphasized that the Green Line reflects the state government’s commitment to enhancing mobility, boosting economic growth, and improving the quality of life for residents.

He also reaffirmed Lagos State’s commitment to delivering a modern rail system that meets the needs of its growing population, while acknowledging the continued support of the Federal Government in advancing critical infrastructure projects.
