Militants in Ahoada West Local Government Area of Rivers State have reportedly called on Nigerian singer Burna Boy, businessman Soso Berekon and social commentator VeryDarkMan to help facilitate discussions with the government over an amnesty arrangement.
The development came to public attention after a video surfaced showing the armed men appealing for government amnesty and expressing their willingness to lay down their weapons if the conditions are agreed upon.
Reacting to the video, VeryDarkMan said the militants were asking Burna Boy and Soso Berekon to intervene on their behalf and help open a channel of communication with the government.
He described the development as unusual, noting that, in his view, it was unprecedented in Nigeria for militants to publicly indicate a willingness to surrender their arms based on intervention from prominent public figures.
VeryDarkMan wrote that the development could represent “history in the making,” while calling attention to the possibility of dialogue and disarmament.
