A youth group in Enugu State has declared its support for the re-election of President Bola Tinubu and Governor Peter Mbah, with the state government urging young people to take a more active role in the 2027 electoral process.
The endorsement was made at the Enugu Youths Support Summit held at the International Conference Centre, Enugu, with the theme, “Take a Stand Today & Lead Tomorrow.”
Speaking at the summit, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Youth Development and Mobilisation, Peter Chime, called on youths across the state to support the re-election bids of Tinubu and Mbah.
Chime said the Mbah administration had created more opportunities for young people through appointments into government and various youth-focused development initiatives.
He also commended President Tinubu for appointing young Nigerians to strategic positions in the Federal Government, describing the move as evidence of the administration’s commitment to youth inclusion in governance.
According to Chime, the summit was organised to strengthen grassroots mobilisation and encourage young people to participate actively in the 2027 general elections.
He urged youths not to remain on the sidelines of political decision-making, stressing the need for them to take ownership of the electoral process and contribute meaningfully to the development of the state and country.
The Commissioner for Youths and Sports Development, Lloyd Ekweremadu, also said both the federal and state governments had opened opportunities for young Nigerians to participate in governance.
He pointed to appointments of young people into strategic positions at the federal and state levels, as well as youth empowerment programmes, including skills acquisition and economic development initiatives.
The Secretary to the Enugu State Government, Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, in his keynote address, urged young people to prepare themselves for leadership through discipline, continuous learning and mentorship.
He said effective leadership requires competence, integrity and performance, urging participants to invest in personal development and seek guidance from experienced mentors.
The summit brought together government officials, youth leaders, political stakeholders, student representatives and youth organisations from across Enugu State.
