Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has said opposition politicians who criticise his love for dancing are only doing so out of jealousy.
Adeleke made the statement on Tuesday during a town hall meeting ahead of Saturday’s governorship election in the state.
The governor said dancing is part of his family’s culture and insisted that his passion for it does not affect his ability to govern or perform his duties.
“They are jealous of me because they can’t dance in the first place. We’re jolly fellows in our family, with music in our blood. Nobody will stop me from dancing.
“As I am dancing, I am working. You need to see me when I am working. I am a very prudent person. I can dance with you now, but when you come to my office, I am serious with work,” Adeleke said.
His comments came days after Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, mocked his dancing and urged Osun residents to vote for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the forthcoming election.
Okpebholo had criticised Adeleke’s public displays of dancing, questioning whether the Osun governor had not become tired of dancing.
“Before somebody signs paper, he will dance. Are you not tired? For four years, this man has been dancing. Before he takes breakfast, before he drinks tea, he will dance.
“That man is Obaseki’s friend. You know we kicked Obaseki out of Edo. So, we have to kick his friend out of this place too. A lot of people ‘chopped’ Obaseki’s money, but they never voted for him,” Okpebholo said.
