Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has declared Friday, August 14, 2026, a work-free day for public service workers across the state ahead of Saturday’s governorship election.
The declaration, contained in a circular issued by the Head of Service, Ayanleye Aina, is aimed at giving workers adequate time to travel to their polling areas and make preparations to participate in the election.
According to a statement by the governor’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, the work-free day applies to all categories of public servants except those engaged in emergency and essential duties.
Adeleke urged workers to take advantage of the break to exercise their constitutional right to vote, while also calling on them to mobilise their relatives, friends and other members of the public ahead of the poll.
The governor also appealed to workers to protect their votes, describing his administration as “workers-friendly” and urging them to support what he described as the gains recorded over the past three and a half years.
“The time for action has come. As formal workers at state establishments, I task you to mobilise informal workers, artisans and professional bodies,” Adeleke said.
He further urged voters to remain vigilant and defend their constitutional rights during the electoral process, as political parties intensify their campaigns ahead of Saturday’s closely watched election.
The work-free declaration is expected to facilitate the movement of public workers who may need to travel to their respective polling locations to participate in the election.
