Recent commentary has renewed debate over Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s infrastructure record in Anambra State, with two Anambra-based content creators, Waga Ge Comedy and Ozigbondu Mmuo, publicly criticising the governor’s administration.
The comedians claimed that they had previously warned Ndi Anambra against supporting Soludo’s re-election, but said their concerns were not heeded. They also accused the governor of focusing on attacks against former Anambra governor Peter Obi while, according to them, some roads constructed under Soludo’s administration have suffered damage following heavy rainfall.
We warned Ndi Anambra not to vote for Governor Soludo’s re-election, but you people didn’t listen. Prof. Soludo is busy attacking Peter Obi, while the ‘Taiwan roads’ he promised Ndi Anambra are being washed away by rain. Meanwhile, the roads constructed by Peter Obi that he is attacking are still very intact,” they said.
The comments come amid an ongoing political debate over the state’s infrastructure development and Soludo’s earlier promise to transform Anambra into an African “Dubai-Taiwan.”
Reports have documented both praise and criticism of the governor’s road programme. Soludo’s administration has said it has constructed and commissioned hundreds of kilometres of roads across the state, while critics have questioned the durability and quality of some projects.
The “Dubai-Taiwan” vision has also remained a recurring point of political discussion in Anambra. Soludo originally campaigned on transforming the state along the lines of highly developed economies, while supporters argue that his administration has made significant progress in infrastructure and other sectors.
The latest remarks by Waga Ge Comedy and Ozigbondu Mmuo therefore add to the wider political and public debate over the durability of road projects, the governor’s development record and comparisons between Soludo and previous administrations, including that of Peter Obi.
The claims made by the comedians about specific roads being washed away would require independent verification on a road-by-road basis.
