Gospel singer Victoria Orenze has warned worshippers against recording with their mobile phones during ministration, urging them to focus on having a genuine encounter with God rather than capturing videos.
Orenze, who expressed her concerns about the growing habit of recording during worship sessions, questioned the attitude of worshippers who prioritise taking videos over engaging spiritually during ministration.
According to the gospel singer, some worshippers are more interested in capturing moments on their phones than paying attention to the presence of God.
“Everything is about capturing, and yet you will have nothing inside. You want to capture? Capture in your heart. Drop those phones. Have an encounter with God,” she said.
She further criticised what she described as a generation increasingly attached to mobile phones, stressing that worshippers should learn to give God their undivided attention during spiritual gatherings.
Using biblical examples, Orenze referenced Blind Bartimaeus, who cried out to Jesus for mercy, and the woman with the issue of blood, who sought healing by touching the garment of Jesus.
She argued that these biblical figures focused on their encounters with Jesus rather than attempting to record the moments.
“Blind Bartimeus didn’t carry a phone and say, ‘Jesus, Son of David.’ He was shouting. The woman with the issue of blood didn’t say, ‘Jesus is passing; let me video him,’” she stated.
The singer also challenged worshippers to reflect on the seriousness of their spiritual needs, suggesting that those genuinely seeking an encounter with God should not allow mobile phones to distract them.
