Former Super Eagles striker Emmanuel Emenike has raised the alarm over an alleged invasion of his hospital, Emenike Hospital, in Imo State, claiming that staff and patients were harassed during the incident on Wednesday, October 21, 2026.
Emenike, who represented Nigeria on the international stage and was part of the Super Eagles squad that won the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations, expressed sadness over the reported incident, insisting that a healthcare facility should remain a safe environment for patients and medical personnel.
In a statement, the former footballer alleged that individuals claiming to be police officers, alongside people said to be from the Imo State waste management agency, entered the hospital and harassed staff and patients.
He described the development as painful, noting that he established the facility as a way of giving back to his community after a successful football career in Europe and with the Nigerian national team.
According to Emenike, his decision to invest in Imo State and build the hospital was driven by his desire to provide people in his home state with access to healthcare, comfort and hope.
“After representing my dear country on the international stage, playing in Europe and celebrating the trophy of winning the Africa Cup of Nations, I chose to bring my experience and success home to Imo State,” he said.
He explained that the hospital was established as a gesture of faith in his people and a commitment to contributing to the development of his home state.
“That is why the reports of what happened today, 21st October, 2026, at Emenike Hospital are so painful. A place built to care for people should never become a place where patients are afraid and staff are left feeling unsafe,” he added.
