Residents of Birnin Tudu village in Gummi Local Government Area of Zamfara State have reportedly killed more than 30 bandits during a three-day clash after armed men attacked the community.
According to residents who spoke to Daily Trust, the attackers, who were reportedly riding motorcycles, surrounded the village and opened fire on residents.
The residents said the armed men had surrounded the community with the intention of launching an attack, prompting them to fight back in a bid to defend their homes.
One resident said the attackers arrived while some villagers had gone to their farms to harvest crops.
“Before we realised what was happening, the bandits had already surrounded the village from all sides, with three people on each motorcycle,” he said.
He added that some residents had organised themselves to confront the attackers and prevent the community from being displaced.
“We killed about 30 bandits during the clash,” he told Daily Trust.
The Zamfara State Police Command confirmed the incident, adding that it was ready to support the community in ensuring the safety and protection of residents.
