FG Announces ₦50,000 Monthly Cash Support for Vulnerable Nigerians, Warns Against Fraudsters

The Federal Government (FG) has announced a monthly cash support programme of ₦50,000 for vulnerable households across the country as part of efforts to ease the financial burden caused by rising living costs.

The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Dr. Bernard Doro, disclosed this in a statement issued on Friday in Abuja, explaining that the initiative, known as the National Emergency Relief and Stabilisation Intervention (NERSI), was introduced to provide direct financial assistance to millions of Nigerians facing economic difficulties.

According to the minister, the intervention is a presidential initiative aimed at helping vulnerable households cope with rising food prices, global inflation and the increasing cost of essential commodities.

Doro stated that eligible beneficiaries would receive ₦50,000 monthly, adding that the programme would be reviewed periodically to reflect changes in the cost of living.

He explained that the ministry was partnering with licensed digital financial service providers to ensure that payments were delivered securely and transparently into beneficiaries’ bank accounts or mobile wallets.

The minister further clarified that beneficiaries would receive text messages from the authorised service providers seeking their consent before payments are processed.

He emphasised that Nigerians do not need to submit applications, pay registration fees or go through agents to benefit from the programme.

Doro also warned against fraudsters seeking to exploit the intervention, urging Nigerians not to disclose their personal identification numbers (PINs) or Bank Verification Numbers (BVNs) to anyone.

He advised anyone with concerns about suspicious messages or payment requests to contact the official NERSI helpline on 0700-022-2222.

The minister added that the intervention would complement existing federal government social protection programmes and support household resilience under President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

He reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to ensuring that the programme is implemented with transparency, accountability and respect for beneficiaries.
