The administration of Hon. (Dr.) Ikechukwu Okakpu, popularly known as OKD Jnr, and his Deputy, Hon. Ifunanya Nwanadile, has recorded a series of early governance milestones as the duo mark their first 30 days in office as Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State.

Since assuming office on October 3, 2026, the administration has initiated interventions in critical areas, including infrastructure, electricity, water supply, environmental sanitation, grassroots governance and community security.
One of the administration’s notable achievements within its first month is the restoration of electricity at the Njikoka Local Government Secretariat after 13 years without public power supply.

The development is expected to improve the working environment at the council headquarters, enhance administrative efficiency and facilitate better service delivery.
In the water sector, the administration has commenced the rehabilitation of pipe-borne water facilities across the local government area as part of efforts to improve residents’ access to clean and reliable water.
The administration has also strengthened its governance structure with the appointment and inauguration of elected councillors, Supervisory Councillors and Special Advisers to support policy implementation, grassroots representation and effective service delivery.
Environmental sanitation has equally received attention, with more than 100 ad-hoc workers engaged to support waste management, routine cleaning and environmental maintenance across the local government area.

On infrastructure, the council has commenced a Public-Community-Private Partnership (PCPP) road project along the Awovu–Osili axis in Enugwu Ukwu. An assessment of Ezi Norbert Road has also been carried out to determine its condition and identify possible areas of intervention.
Security has also emerged as a major priority of the Okakpu-led administration. In its efforts to strengthen surveillance and tackle insecurity, the council has installed CCTV cameras at strategic locations across the local government area.
In addition, the administration has introduced a community-based security initiative by engaging local traders and street operators as Community Safety Marshals.
The marshals, who have been equipped with walkie-talkies, are expected to provide security intelligence by monitoring their immediate environments and reporting suspicious movements and activities to the appropriate authorities.
The initiatives form part of the administration’s early efforts to address longstanding challenges and establish a foundation for sustainable development across Njikoka’s six communities.
The administration says its governance agenda is anchored on practical development, improved public services, environmental responsibility, infrastructure renewal and the creation of a safer environment for residents.
Although the administration is only one month into its tenure, the projects and interventions initiated so far offer an indication of its immediate priorities and development direction.
However, residents will expect the initial interventions to translate into completed projects, measurable improvements in public services and sustainable development across the local government area.
As the Okakpu-Nwanadile administration moves beyond its first 30 days, the focus will increasingly be on sustaining the momentum, delivering on its promises and ensuring that the impact of governance is felt across all six communities of Njikoka.
