A young boy reportedly abducted while visiting his family’s farm in Egede community, Udi Local Government Area of Enugu State, has escaped from his alleged captors and safely returned home.
The incident reportedly occurred on Sunday evening, when the boy was allegedly abducted by suspected armed herdsmen while at the family farm.
According to accounts from the community, the boy, said to be his mother’s only son, managed to escape from the hideout where he was allegedly being held and made his way back home.
Community sources said the boy returned home on his own, without being rescued by security operatives.
His safe return has brought relief to his family and members of the community, although concerns remain over the reported abduction and the safety of residents, particularly farmers who depend on their farmlands for their livelihoods.
The incident has renewed calls for improved security in rural communities across Enugu State, where residents remain concerned about the safety of travelling to farms and other locations outside their immediate neighbourhoods.
Residents have called on relevant security agencies to investigate the reported abduction, identify and apprehend those responsible, and strengthen security around Egede and neighbouring communities.
They also urged the authorities to take proactive measures to protect farmers and other rural dwellers from potential attacks and abductions.
