Troops of Operation Fansan Yamma have killed eight suspected terrorists and rescued three kidnapped victims during separate security operations in Katsina, Kaduna and Zamfara states.
The coordinated operations also resulted in the recovery of an AK-47 rifle, three locally fabricated guns, three motorcycles, cutlasses and assorted charms, according to the military.
The development was disclosed in a statement by Captain Tamuno Sinive, Media Information Officer of Operation Fansan Yamma.
Sinive said troops operating in Katsina State responded to a distress call from farmers at Machika Dam in Sabuwa Local Government Area on Saturday, October 24, 2026, following reports of terrorist activities in the area.
According to the statement, the troops engaged the suspected terrorists in a gun battle, killing two of them while others fled.
The operation also led to the rescue of a 42-year-old kidnapped victim, identified as Suleiman Umar. Troops subsequently recovered an AK-47 rifle loaded with ammunition and a motorcycle from the area.
In a separate operation in Kaduna State, troops of Sector One, working alongside members of the Civilian Joint Task Force, foiled a suspected terrorist ambush along Ungwan Iya in Igabi Local Government Area.
The military said the troops were responding to reports of an attack on Ungwan Mallami village, where suspected terrorists had fled with two kidnapped victims.
During efforts to track the assailants, the troops came under attack but reportedly responded with superior firepower, neutralising six suspected terrorists while others escaped.
Three locally fabricated firearms, two motorcycles, cutlasses and assorted charms were recovered during the operation.
Meanwhile, troops of Sector Two rescued two kidnapped men during a surveillance operation in Bagega, Anka Local Government Area of Zamfara State, on Sunday, October 25, 2026.
The rescued victims were identified as Shehu Chete, 40, and Bugu Bedi, 25, both indigenes of Kebbi State.
According to the military, troops spotted suspicious activities during surveillance and immediately launched a fighting patrol. The suspected terrorists reportedly fled upon sighting the advancing troops, abandoning the two victims.
The rescued men were taken to Bagega Clinic for medical attention before being transferred to a military base for further assessment and eventual reunion with their families.
The military said troops were continuing patrols and search operations across the affected areas to track down fleeing suspects, rescue other kidnapped victims and prevent further attacks.
The Theatre Commander of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation Fansan Yamma, commended the troops for their courage and resilience in responding to the incidents.
He also urged members of the public to support ongoing security operations by providing timely and credible information about suspicious movements and activities in their communities.
