Abia State Independent Election Commission (ABSIEC) to provide details on cost and logistical support required to organize local elections
Abia State is one of the states in the country that for the past 8 years has used the chairman of the transition committee to lead the local government.
Meanwhile, political observers and state activists condemned the state government’s inability to hold local elections since taking office, stressing that such action was counterproductive for good governance. and the principles of democracy.
Recall that the Abia State Assembly examined and confirmed on Tuesday March 10, 2020 the appointment of Professor Mkpa Agu Mkpa as Chairman of the Independent Electoral Commission of Abia State (ABSIEC).
ABSIEC has yet to provide details on the cost and logistical support required to organize local government elections in the 17 LGAs, under the direction of the State Executive Council.
The SUNNEWS247 had reported that state governor Dr Okezie Ikpeazu 6 months ago on a monitored radio program (Magic FM) in Aba, during a telephone section of the program, said the state did not can organize local government only when resources are available.
Also remember at the State Executive Council held at the Executive Chamber of Government House in Umuahia. The State Executive Council asked the Independent Electoral Commission of Abia State (ABSIEC) to provide details on the cost and logistical support required to organize local elections in the 17 LGAs of the State in later September 30, 2020.
Meanwhile, ABSEC has revealed that the state will hold elections in its LGAs in Saturday 19th December, 2020.
