Veteran entertainer and social activist Charly Boy has publicly thrown his support behind controversial online personality VeryDarkMan amid his ongoing criticisms of activist circles in Nigeria.
In a strongly worded reaction, Charly Boy praised VeryDarkMan for what he described as “truthful and well-researched” revelations, while questioning the credibility of some individuals who identify as activists.
He expressed skepticism about the activism space, stating that many use it as a business platform rather than a genuine tool for societal change.
The veteran also made fresh allegations against activist and publisher Omoyele Sowore, alongside others, including Deji Adeyanju. Charly Boy claimed they once mounted a campaign against him after he refused to release funds from a grant reportedly given to his foundation by the Ford Foundation.
According to him, the group allegedly pressured him to share the funds, with Sowore acting as the “ring leader.” He described the episode as his “first encounter with real betrayal.”
Charly Boy concluded by offering prayers and encouragement to VeryDarkMan, urging him to remain consistent in his pursuit of a better Nigeria.
