Nollywood actress Bolaji Ogunmola has revealed that she is deliberately building her retirement fund through movie ownership, with an ambitious target of owning 1,000 films.
Ogunmola, who currently owns about 100 movies, said she sees film ownership as a long-term investment that could provide financial security after her active years in the entertainment industry.
According to the actress, her existing catalogue could be worth at least $1 million if acquired by a major company.
My retirement plan is to own 1,000 movies. I currently own 100, and if a big company wants to buy those 100 movies, they’d have to pay at least $1 million. I’m building my retirement fund through movies.”
Rather than relying solely on income from acting, Ogunmola is focusing on building ownership of intellectual property that can retain and potentially increase its commercial value over time.
Her strategy highlights the growing importance of content ownership in the creative industry, where films can continue generating revenue through licensing, distribution, streaming and other commercial opportunities long after their initial release.
For Ogunmola, the ultimate goal is to build a catalogue of 1,000 movies that will serve as a valuable financial asset and help secure her retirement.
