Anambra 2021: The Contenders To Watch

PROF CHUKWUMA SOLUDO: He seems to be the ordained APGA candidate with past experience as the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). On 9 October 2009, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) chose Soludo as their consensus candidate for the position from a field of 47 candidates, after repeated attempts to hold elective primaries were stalled by court injunctions. With his political baggage, would he make an impact replacing Gov Obianno?

UCHE EKWUNIFE: She is a political bulldozer, quite experienced and a veteran in govership contest . She has been in the game since 2007 when she contested under PDP for Njikoka/Anaocha/ Dunukofia/Federal Constituency and won. Ekwunife is not new to governorship contests. In 2010, she had contested for the governorship position of the state under the platform of Progressive Peoples Alliance (PPA), while holding the position of a member of House of Representatives. But the female factor and the zoning issue in PDP seem to be an impediment in her sojourn to occupy Agu Awka.

IKE OLIGBO: He is a political neophyte but has come out with all guns blazing and has proved to be no pushover. He is pushing hard to secure the ticket under the platform of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He has lots of international recognition and has no baggage but his Achilles’heel is his coming from Anambra Central although the party has disclaimed that there is no zoning for Anambra 2021 governorship primary election.

GODWIN MADUKA : A philanthropist and a political newbie. He has has proven that he can push his own. He joined PDP from APGA in 2019 and when he moved to PDP, he moved with a lot of admirers who were members of APGA. Being a fresh politician, he has no baggage. Though he lacks experience, his antecedent as a reformer can serve as a magic wand in his aspiration.

IFEANYI UBAH: Currently serving as a senator and could be equally described as a veteran of governorship election contest having attempt
