As Nigerians celebrate the 2019 Workers Day, workers in Bauchi State have urged the state government to improve the welfare of workers in the state by expediting action on the new national minimum wage.
The workers, who spoke in separate interviews with Akelicious on Wednesday at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Stadium in Bauchi, urged the committee that would soon be constituted by the government on the new minimum wage to do its assignment by ensuring that all procedures regarding the implementation are followed.
Lawal Garba, a civil servant in the Ministry of Information in the state said that the implementation of the new minimum wage would ease the problem of poverty bedeviling Nigerian workers.
While commending the government for the success of the passage of the new minimum wage into law, he urged governments at all levels to reciprocate the gesture of the Federal Government by hastening its implementation.
He said, “This laudable passage of the new minimum wage into law by the Federal Government is one of the greatest achievements of President Buhari –led administration and as such, state governments must not delay its implementation.”
He however commended the state government for its laudable programmes and policies that have re-positioned the civil service in the state, saying that government should not relent at improving the plights of workers.
