Igboukwu-born financial expert and senatorial aspirant for Anambra South Senatorial District under the Action Peoples Party (APP), Chief Onyemelukwe Eusebius Zonyelu, has expressed deep concern over the tragic fire incidents plaguing the South-East region.

Speaking on the recent fire outbreak at Ugwuama, Enugu, caused by a petroleum tanker explosion, Chief Onyemelukwe lamented the devastating loss of lives and property. The incident, which occurred after a tanker loaded with inflammable spirit overturned and spilled its contents, claimed numerous lives and caused extensive damage.

He highlighted that such incidents have become alarmingly frequent across the South-East, with fire outbreaks destroying properties worth millions of Naira in recent months. Chief Onyemelukwe pointed out the lack of preparedness and inadequate firefighting facilities in the region as a major concern. He emphasized that fire service personnel are often unavailable during emergencies, further exacerbating the damage caused by such incidents.

The senatorial aspirant passionately appealed to the governors of the South-East to prioritize equipping fire service departments in their states and local governments with the necessary tools and resources to effectively combat fire outbreaks.

Chief Onyemelukwe also commended the Governor of Anambra State, Charly Nwa Mgbafor, for his commendable strides in infrastructural development. He urged the governor to sustain his efforts while drawing attention to the urgent need for a flyover at the center of Nnewi, where the Orize statue stands, to improve traffic flow and enhance safety in the area.

The aspirant concluded by emphasizing the importance of proactive measures to prevent further tragedies and ensure the safety of lives and property across the South-East region.
