Nigerian comedian and actor Bovi has advised parents against beating children as a form of punishment, urging them to first examine their emotions and intentions before disciplining their children.
Bovi shared his personal experience with his son, revealing that the boy broke at least three television sets while growing up.
According to the comedian, his son would sometimes break things when he was angry, but as he grew older, Bovi noticed that he began to understand his actions and show remorse.
He said, “I don’t advocate for beating children. You should let children be. My son dey break television for the fun of it. If he’s angry, he will throw stuff and break.
“He got to the age where he got to, and I saw the remorse. At least he broke three TVs. Thank God for capacity. If I couldn’t afford another TV, then the approach would have been totally different.
“That’s why I tell people, most times when we hit kids, check: are you really trying to correct them, or you’re frustrated?”
