Court Drama as Missing Document Stalls El-Rufai’s Trial in Abuja

El-Rufai

Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, was in court today at the Federal High Court in Abuja, where he was arraigned over allegations of illegally intercepting the phone of NSA Nuhu Ribadu.

He pleaded not guilty to the charges.

However, proceedings could not continue after a key document referenced by the defence was missing from the case file, forcing the court to step down the matter.

This development comes just days after the Kaduna State High Court denied him bail in a separate corruption case involving multiple charges, including fraud, criminal breach of trust, abuse of office, and violations of procurement laws.

The court ruled that he remains in ICPC custody pending trial, citing the serious nature of the allegations, concerns over possible interference with investigations, and lack of sufficient medical evidence to justify bail on health grounds.

Trial in the corruption case has been fixed for June 1st to June 4th, 2026, on a day-to-day basis.

El-Rufai has pleaded not guilty to all charges, while his supporters continue to describe the cases as politically motivated. The claims remain unproven in court.

El-Rufai remains in custody and is now facing multiple legal battles across different courts, with proceedings set to intensify in June.
