There is bigger division among members of the ruling All Progressives Congress APC in Ebonyi State following the cash gift donated by the Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi and members of his family for party faithful during the just concluded stakeholders meeting of the different zones in the State and the Town Hall meeting held at the Christian Ecumenical center Abakaliki.
Trouble stated when the Minister announced the cash gift of 20k for each participant at the stakeholders meeting and Town Hall meeting.
Keeping to his promise, the Minister shortly after the conclusion of the event, released the funds to leaders of the different wards, local Government and political appointees who served under his administration and others groups in attendance.
Regrettably, the money released by Senator Umahi has caused and created more division and crack within the APC rather than uniting the people. Some of the stakeholders had vowed never to attend any political meetings or town hall meeting called by the APC in the State.
A member of the APC and ward Executive in the urban ward while narrating his ordeal said that the Ward Chairmen were instructed by the Minister at the Ecumenical center to disburse the sum of N20k to each ward Executive but regrettably, some of us were given as low as N5k while the ward Chairmen carried the Ghana Must Go bag of money into his car and zoomed off.
Another aggrieved member of the party who also spoke on grounds of anonymity said that the party are capitalizing on the high level of hunger in the land to frustrate the people.
Yesterday, an invitation was extended to us for a town hall meeting. We all attended in our numbers especially those who served under the past administration of Senator David Umahi. Shortly after the event, the Minister announced that people should wait behind and collect their transport allowance.
Up till this morning, we are still waiting for the transport allowance to no avail. It has been one story to another. Nobody can account for the money released. From the feelers we are getting, those saddled with the responsibility of disbursing the money absconded with the money.
Others claimed that the money released by the Minister was so small that some people only got the sum of N1500 while others got N3000.
I guess this is how they intend to deliver APC in the State. Obviously, President Tinubu is releasing money to the political leaders in the State but they are hoarding the money. Yesterday’s town hall meeting will be the last APC meeting I will ever attend.
