Ebonyi state government has ordered Nsulakpa and Umugara communities to vacate Ebonyi State University land they are illegally occupying.
The Secretary to the State Government/Coordinating Commissioner, Dr. Ugbala Kenneth, on behalf of His Excellency, the Governor of Ebonyi State, who gave the directive in a meeting with stakeholders, warned against encroachment on the university’s property by the communities.
Dr Ugbala expressed displeasure at the way the people of Nsulakpa and Umagara were still intruding into the University land after being compensated by the State Government, and turned down several warnings from the University management.
The SSG directed a team of Security personnel made up Nigerian Police and DSS to arrest and prosecute any person that henceforth encroached into the university land, and advised the University Management not allow portion of the land to lie fallow especially now farming is in vogue.
Speaking on the subject of compensation to the two communities, the SSG promised to liaise with the Ministry of Lands and Survey to rectify all problems bothering on the said land and tackling them forthwith.
In his own remarks, the Vice Chancellor of Ebonyi State University, Prof. Chigozie Ogbu, maintained that the two Communities had remained defiant and refused to vacate the University land despite compensation, and several warnings by the authorities.
He disclosed that the university had given employments, admissions, among other benefits, to the indigenes of the two communities adding that more job opportunities will be created when the embargo for employment is lifted by the State Government.
On their parts, the representatives of the two Communities including Eze Chibueze Agbo, the Traditional Prime Minister of Umuegara Community, Chief Emmanuel Aka and Mr Innocent Akam of Nsulakpa Community enumerated the challenges faced by Nsulakpa and Umagara Communities as a result of relinquishing their land to the University and further demanded for full compensation, scholarship among other privileges and promised to abide by the directives of the State Government to vacate the land.
Others who attended the meeting included the Ishieke DPO and DSS Ebonyi State, advised the people to cooporate with the University to enable them gain more dividends.
