Enugu-based content creator, Ezema Kelechi Henry, popularly known as Kelwizzy, has reportedly been detained after publishing videos criticising the condition of roads and other governance issues in Nsukka.
According to family and community sources, men alleged to be neighbourhood-watch operatives reportedly lured Kelwizzy from his residence, assaulted him and subsequently handed him over to the police.
He was initially detained at the Nsukka Area Command before reportedly being transferred to the Enugu State Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
A human-rights organisation has alleged that his detention followed a complaint purportedly linked to the Nsukka Local Government Chairman, Engr. Jude Asogwa, over alleged “cyberbullying.”
However, neither the police nor the council chairman has publicly confirmed the allegation, while details of any formal charges against Kelwizzy have not been made available.
Public officials have the right to challenge allegations they consider false or defamatory through lawful channels. However, criticism of public infrastructure and governance should be addressed through due process and lawful engagement, not through alleged assault, intimidation or arbitrary detention.
Authorities are expected to clarify the circumstances surrounding Kelwizzy’s arrest and detention and ensure that his fundamental rights are protected in accordance with the law.
