The Enugu State Police Command has launched an investigation into an alleged shooting near the secretariat of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), which reportedly left a man injured and damaged five vehicles.
The incident occurred on Saturday, October 10, 2026, at about 2:30 p.m., when unidentified armed hoodlums allegedly opened fire in front of the party’s secretariat in Enugu.
According to a statement issued on Sunday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Daniel Ndukwe, the victim was repairing a vehicle parked along the road when he sustained a suspected gunshot injury.
Police operatives who responded to a distress call reportedly restored order at the scene and rushed the injured man to a hospital, where he is receiving treatment and is said to be in stable condition.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, has directed the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to conduct a thorough investigation and identify and arrest those responsible for the incident.
In a separate development on the same day, joint police and military operatives dispersed suspected NDC members who gathered in a disorderly manner at the entrance of Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu.
The incident reportedly occurred at about 11:30 a.m. after airport authorities restricted the party members from entering the facility in large numbers to receive their governorship candidate.
The police said a misunderstanding subsequently developed among the party members and escalated into a fight, prompting the intervention of security operatives to restore order.
Reacting to the incidents, the police commissioner urged political parties and their supporters to shun violence and conduct their activities within the provisions of the law and existing peace accords.
Giwa also reaffirmed the command’s commitment to providing adequate security and a level playing field for all political parties in the state.
He further advised political parties to notify the police ahead of planned activities to enable the command to make appropriate security arrangements.
The police said investigations into the alleged shooting were ongoing.
