FIFA has reportedly handed down a series of disciplinary sanctions following the heated post-match confrontation between Argentina and Spain, with several players and officials receiving suspensions and fines.

The Argentine Football Association (AFA) was fined $321,000 over breaches recorded during the World Cup final against Spain. Argentina was also ordered to play its next two home matches with only 50 per cent stadium capacity.

The heaviest individual punishment went to Argentine midfielder Leandro Paredes, who was handed a 10-match suspension and fined $90,000.

Defender Nahuel Molina was also sanctioned with a seven-match ban and a $90,000 fine.

Other players affected include Pablo Gavi, who was handed a one-match suspension and fined $30,000, while Thiago Almada received a one-match ban and a $30,000 fine.

Team official Roberto Ayala was handed a three-match suspension, while Pablo Martín Páez Gavira was also reportedly given a one-match ban.

The sanctions come after tensions boiled over following the Spain-Argentina encounter, with FIFA moving to punish the individuals and association for the incidents surrounding the match.

The disciplinary measures are expected to have a significant impact on Argentina ahead of its upcoming international fixtures, particularly with Paredes and Molina facing lengthy suspensions.
