Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has issued a statement addressing the people of the state amidst the ongoing political challenges. In his address, Fubara expressed a deep sense of responsibility and calm, emphasizing his commitment to upholding the state’s constitutional order and safeguarding the welfare of its people.

The Governor reiterated that since assuming office, his administration has remained focused on the protection of lives and property, as well as the continuous development of the state. Despite the political impasse, Fubara assured that his administration has stayed true to the constitutional oath of office, prioritizing the interests of Rivers State above all else.

He noted that following the intervention of President Muhammadu Buhari to broker peace, his administration acted swiftly to implement the terms agreed upon, including welcoming back former commissioners who had previously resigned voluntarily. In addition, the Governor emphasized the prompt compliance with the Supreme Court’s judgment, which led to the restoration of normalcy in the state.

Fubara lamented that despite these efforts, members of the Rivers State House of Assembly have continued to frustrate progress, making it challenging to achieve genuine peace and development. However, he reassured the people of Rivers that despite political disagreements, the government had continued to deliver on its mandate, ensuring the payment of salaries and the successful execution of major projects aimed at advancing the state.

The Governor further stressed that under his administration, Rivers State remains safe, secure, and peaceful, and called on citizens to remain peaceful and law-abiding during this period. He urged all relevant institutions to collaborate in preserving the state’s democracy and ensuring its continued prosperity.

Fubara concluded by appealing to the people of Rivers State to remain resilient, patient, and unwavering in their commitment to the democratic process.

“Rivers State is resilient, and together, we will face this challenge with wisdom and faith,” he stated.

He ended the address with a prayer for the continued well-being of Rivers State and the Federal Republic of Nigeria, saying, “God bless Rivers State. God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
