Reality TV star and entrepreneur Mercy Eke has said she is no longer willing to date a man who earns less than she does, explaining that her past experiences have shaped her current views on relationships.
Speaking during a recent episode of Toke Moments hosted by media personality Toke Makinwa, Mercy stated that she would not consider dating someone whose income is below hers.
“No, in fact, no, I won’t,” she replied when asked if she would date a man she earns more than.
The BBNaija winner also disclosed that she has financially supported former partners on more than one occasion.
“Yeah, not once, not twice,” she said when asked if she had ever given money to men she dated.
Explaining why she did so, Mercy said she was simply trying to help because she had the means.
“Because they don’t have, and I have. So… they don’t have, and I have, and I will give, I will share.”
When Makinwa argued that some people with potential eventually become successful if given the opportunity, Mercy said she no longer believes in building a relationship based solely on prospects.
“I’ve been there, done that. I don’t want prospect again,” she said.
She, however, clarified that her stance would be different if she met a man who had already achieved financial success but later encountered setbacks.
“If he was a good man, I’ll be there and I will support him. But if you don’t chop your money before…” she added.
Mercy’s remarks have since sparked conversations on social media, with many weighing in on her views about finances and gender roles in relationships.
