Nigerian content creator and social media personality, Peller, has reacted to the viral incident involving a lady who addressed billionaire businessman Tony Elumelu by his first name.
The incident, which has generated mixed reactions online, saw the lady greet the business mogul with “Good morning, Tony,” a manner of address that sparked debate among social media users.
Reacting to the controversy, Peller questioned the different standards often applied when people from less privileged backgrounds make similar remarks.
According to him, if someone like him had addressed Elumelu in the same manner, people would likely have attributed the behaviour to a lack of education.
Peller noted that the lady involved is a graduate and argued that age and social status should also be considered when addressing older or highly respected individuals.
“If it was someone like us who did what that lady did to Tony Elumelu, they would start saying, ‘That is why I say education is important’. That girl is a graduate o. And she open her mouth say good morning Tony,” Peller said.
He added: “If say na person like us, dey go say na because he is uneducated. He did not go to school. Them go whine your career.”
