Yoruba Nation activist, Chief Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has cautioned volunteers of the Iru Ekun Security Network against interfering in civil disputes while carrying out their security responsibilities across the South-West.
Igboho gave the warning on Saturday in Lagos while inaugurating the Lagos chapter of the security outfit, directing volunteers in Lagos, Oyo, Ogun, Ondo and Ekiti states to intensify efforts against kidnapping, banditry and other criminal activities.
He stressed that members of the network must operate strictly within the law and adhere to the standards set by the Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, and the Director-General of the Department of State Services, Tosin Ajayi.
According to him, volunteers must not meddle in issues such as land disputes, debt recovery, marital disagreements or domestic matters, warning that such conduct could damage the image and credibility of the organisation.
Igboho said Iru Ekun was established to complement existing security agencies by providing intelligence and support in tackling threats to lives and property, particularly in rural communities, forests and agrarian settlements.
He also commended the police, DSS and other security agencies for their technical support and cooperation, which he said had contributed to recent rescue operations and efforts to curb criminal activities in the South-West.
The activist further claimed that insecurity had reduced in parts of the region since the emergence of Iru Ekun, urging volunteers to remain disciplined and focused on their primary responsibility of protecting communities.
He added that the security network would continue to operate beyond the current administration, saying its sustainability would depend on responsible conduct and continued commitment to the safety of residents.
