A woman has appealed to Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, to urgently intervene in the poor condition of a World Bank Primary School in Owerri, Imo State.
In a viral video circulating on social media, the woman expressed concern over the state of the school, pointing to damaged infrastructure, a lack of windows and other facilities she said could pose a danger to pupils.
She called on the state government to take action, stressing that she could not remain silent while children were made to learn in what she described as an unacceptable environment.
“I went to government primary school and government secondary school. I was even the disciplinary prefect of the school during my own time, and I cannot sit and keep quiet and watch all these poor children just being in this kind of place,” she said.
Pointing to the condition of the building, she warned that the structure could potentially collapse.
“This place can fall. No window. Look at this. Our government just forsake their duty,” she added.
The woman also commended the teachers for continuing to manage the school despite the condition of the facilities and urged them to remain committed to the pupils.
She further said she had used government schools for her own children and expressed her belief that public schools should receive adequate attention from the government.
Her appeal comes amid ongoing concerns over the condition of some public schools and the need for improved infrastructure to provide pupils with safer and more conducive learning environments.
