INEC Denies Releasing Timetable for 2027 General Election

Timetable for 2027 General Election

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has dismissed reports claiming that it has released the Timetable and Schedule of Activities for the 2027 General Election, describing the information as false and misleading.

In a statement issued on Friday, the Commission clarified that no timetable or schedule has been released for the 2027 polls, urging the public to disregard reports circulating in some quarters.

INEC explained that it operates strictly within the provisions of the law, particularly Section 28(1) of the Electoral Act, 2022, which mandates the Commission to publish a Notice of Election not later than 360 days before the date appointed for a general election.

“Any timetable or schedule issued outside this statutory framework cannot emanate from the Commission,” INEC stated.

The electoral body assured Nigerians that the official Timetable and Schedule of Activities for the 2027 General Election will be released in due course and in full compliance with the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended), and the Electoral Act, 2022.

INEC added that once released, the timetable would be communicated through its established and verified channels to ensure transparency and accuracy.

The Commission also called on the media and the general public to always rely on information from its official platforms and to disregard unverified reports capable of misleading Nigerians.

The statement was signed by Mr. Adedayo Oketola, Chief Press Secretary and Media Adviser to the INEC Chairman, and dated January 2, 2026.
