Ex-National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, has claimed that his removal as the Party’s National Secretary was the major reason Jonathan lost Presidential Election to President Buhari in 2015.
While explaining his statement, he noted that his illegal removal as the secretary was the beginning of PDP crisis which provoked about five governors to decamp to APC on the eve of 2015 election.
According to him, the former governor of Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi; Muritala Nyako of Adamawa State; Abdulfatai Ahmed of Kwara State; Rabiu Kwankwanso of Kano State; and Aliyu Wamakko of Sokoto State all left PDP for APC at the peak of the crisis that followed his removal as secretary.
Oyinlola said he wondered why Jonathan was not bothered about the defection of five governors at a time very close to election; why he would allow himself to be deceived to believe that the exit of the five governors at the election time, was of no electoral value.
He noted that two other PDP governors, Babangida Aliyu (Niger) and Sule Lamidi (Jigawa), were initially also part of the plot to dump PDP, but later stayed back. But despite that the two governors didn’t later decamp to APC, the minds of their people, Niger and Jigawa were already captured by the movement of APC for change; and they voted massively for Buhari even while their governors were in PDP.
In his analytical claim, Olinlola argued that Jonathan later lost the 2015 election to Buhari by N2,571,759 votes, of which if you deduct the votes of those seven states as mentioned earlier, from Buhari’s total votes, it’s clear that he would have lost the election to Jonathan.
