The 2027 Kaduna senatorial elections are set for a series of high-profile political contests, with former governor Mukhtar Yero and former senator Shehu Sani among the prominent figures cleared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to contest.

INEC’s final list contains 33 candidates across Kaduna’s three senatorial districts, setting the stage for intense battles ahead of the January 2027 National Assembly elections.

In Kaduna North, Yero of the All Progressives Congress (APC) is seeking a return to elective office as he takes on incumbent Senator Khalid of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

The Kaduna Central contest is equally notable, with former senator Shehu Sani of the APC challenging incumbent Senator Lawal Usman of the ADC.

Sani, who previously represented the district in the Senate, will be seeking a return to the National Assembly, while Usman is campaigning to retain his seat.

In Kaduna South, incumbent Senator Sunday Katung of the APC is seeking re-election against seven other candidates, including Godfrey Gaiya of the ADC, Abel Solomon of the Action Democratic Party (ADP) and Sa’ad Abubakar of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM).

The final list also features candidates from the NNPP, PDP, SDP, PRP, ZLP and other political parties, reflecting a wide field of contenders across the three districts.

With several former and serving lawmakers involved, the Kaduna Senate races are expected to attract significant political attention as parties and candidates intensify their campaigns ahead of the January 2027 elections.
