Labour Party Picks Senator Nenadi Usman As First Female National Chairman

Nenadi Usman

The Labour Party has elected Nenadi Usman as its National Chairman at the party’s national convention held on Tuesday in Umuahia, Abia State, making her the first woman ever to lead a political party in Nigeria.

Usman, a former Minister of Finance, had previously been appointed on September 4, 2024, to head the party’s National Caretaker Committee after the tenure of the former NWC expired. She steered the LP through months of internal crisis and legal battles, eventually securing appellate court validation of her leadership.

With the 2027 general elections approaching, Usman now carries the responsibility of stabilising the party and positioning it for electoral success.
