Minister of Works, David Umahi, has criticised what he described as the growing culture of excessive noise-making and public display of wealth, urging Nigerians to focus more on their achievements and contributions to society.
Speaking during a recent engagement, Umahi questioned the habit of constantly boasting about having money, insisting that genuine wealth should be evident in what people have accomplished rather than what they say about their financial status.
He said, “We have become very noise-making. Every time, money na water. How much do you have? Have you ever seen that water that I have money? Have you ever seen children that say I have money, or say I have money, or poor?”
The minister further stressed that financial success should be demonstrated through meaningful actions, particularly by supporting others and creating opportunities for people in need.
“Money speaks for itself. Money speaks for itself, not to say money na water. No, but I be me then. Money, what have you done? How many of the people scholarship?” he asked.
Umahi also urged people to return to a more strategic approach, expressing concern that too much attention was being given to making noise about wealth rather than showcasing tangible achievements.
“We are becoming very loud. We should go back to our strategy,” he added.
