Nigerian social media activist VeryDarkMan has dismissed suggestions that he calls out celebrities, musicians and social media influencers merely to attract attention or provoke responses, insisting that his primary objective is to create awareness about issues affecting the public.
In a statement shared online, the activist said his videos and public criticisms were intended to inform people about developments, regardless of whether the individuals involved chose to respond to his allegations or remain silent.
VeryDarkMan, who is known for his outspoken commentary on social issues and controversies involving public figures, said his content reaches millions of people monthly across social media platforms.
According to him, his Facebook audience alone generates between 300 million and 500 million views monthly, excluding his reach on Instagram, TikTok and YouTube.
He argued that his posts allow Nigerians at home and in the diaspora to become aware of issues that might otherwise receive limited public attention.
“ You think when I make these videos, I make them because I want a response? Is that how you think?” he asked while challenging the perception that his criticisms are motivated by a desire to gain publicity.
The activist also addressed supporters of celebrities who often advise their favourites not to respond to his comments, arguing that such advice does not undermine his objective.
He suggested that the argument that silence is golden was sometimes used as a defence mechanism by people seeking to avoid public scrutiny.
Reinforcing his position, VeryDarkMan concluded with a humorous remark, saying: “Me when Dey chop Panadol Dey lick paracetamol without water you really think I care 💀.”
The statement has drawn attention to the ongoing debate surrounding online activism, celebrity controversies and the influence of social media personalities in shaping public conversations in Nigeria.
While some supporters of public figures view responding to online criticism as a way of giving critics unnecessary attention, VeryDarkMan maintains that his large online audience allows him to draw public attention to issues regardless of whether those involved respond.
