One person has been confirmed dead while nine suspects have been arrested following a violent clash between rival thuggery groups in the Kawo and Mariri areas of the Kano metropolis.
Sources told Akelicious that the incident occurred on January 4 at about 9:00 p.m., after a confrontation between two rival groups allegedly led by Kabalo Snu and Faizu Mohammed, popularly known as Chabross of Yar Kasuwa, Kawo Quarters.
According to the sources, the violence was a reprisal attack linked to an earlier altercation between the two groups. Earlier that day, at about 1:40 p.m., Faizu Mohammed was said to have inflicted injuries on Kabalo during a separate clash, prompting members of Kabalo’s group to retaliate later in the night.
During the reprisal attack, Faizu Mohammed reportedly sustained severe injuries after being stabbed in the neck with a sharp object. He was rushed to the Sir Muhammadu Sanusi Specialist Hospital, where he later died while receiving treatment.
The sources disclosed that his remains were released to his relatives for burial, after which calm was temporarily restored in the affected areas.
However, tension resurfaced in the early hours of January 5 following reports that suspected thugs were mobilising in large numbers at Kawo Quarters, allegedly planning another reprisal attack on Kabalo at his residence in Jar Kuka, Mariri Quarters.
Police operatives were immediately deployed to the area and arrived to find that the suspects had already broken into a shop belonging to Kabalo. The operatives swiftly moved in, arrested nine suspects, and recovered some exhibits, while several others reportedly fled the scene.
The sources added that the situation has since been brought under control, with normalcy restored across Kawo and Mariri neighbourhoods. Police investigations are ongoing, and efforts have been intensified to apprehend the fleeing suspects and prevent further breakdown of law and order.
