Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has called on residents of Umunneochi Local Government Area to massively support the Labour Party and its candidates in the 2027 general elections, assuring them of more developmental projects across the area.

Otti made the call on Friday, November 6, 2026, during the Labour Party campaign rally held at the Peace Secondary School field, Isuochi, Umunneochi LGA.

The governor urged eligible voters to collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), participate actively in the electoral process and protect their votes, insisting that the 2027 elections must be guided by the principle of “One man, one vote.”

Expressing appreciation for the consistent support he had received from the people of Umunneochi since 2015, Otti assured them that his administration would continue to prioritise the area’s development.

“Since 2015, when I showed up to contest election in Abia State, I’ve always won Umunneochi, and that is very correct. I want to use this opportunity to say thank you to all of you. We cannot take you for granted,” he said.

Highlighting his administration’s achievements in the area, the governor disclosed that 12 out of the 18 Primary Healthcare Centres in Umunneochi had been delivered and made functional, while several primary and secondary schools had undergone retrofitting.

He also disclosed that work was ongoing on a Smart School in the area, while a General Hospital was under construction, describing the facility as a landmark project that would be delivered in Umunneochi for the first time.

On security, Otti said his administration had taken decisive steps to tackle insecurity and would sustain its efforts until lasting peace was restored across the area.

Speaking on road infrastructure, the governor revealed that the 11.27-kilometre ring road from Ngodo was nearing completion, while the Mman Bridge project had reached the design stage.

He assured residents that construction of the bridge would commence soon, promising to return to the area for its official flag-off.

Otti added that several other roads had been captured in his administration’s development plans, acknowledging that more work remained to be done but insisting that his government would not disappoint the people.

“Instead of saying something and not doing it, we do what we did not say,” the governor declared, stressing that his administration was more committed to delivering tangible results than making promises.

The governor also welcomed political leaders and new members who defected from other parties into the Labour Party, assuring them of equal treatment, fairness and opportunities, irrespective of when they joined the party.

Before the campaign rally, Otti visited the palace of HRH Eze Ifeanyi Eke at Amaeke Uru, Lokpanta, Umuchieze, where he met with members of the Umunneochi Council of Traditional Rulers.

The traditional rulers commended the governor for what they described as verifiable and impactful projects executed in the area. They also declared their support for his political ambition ahead of the 2027 governorship election.

While offering royal blessings, the traditional rulers promised to double the votes they gave him in the last election and appealed for additional development projects in the local government.

Earlier, the Director-General of the Campaign Council, Rt. Hon. Agwu U. Agwu, said the campaign council was determined to ensure that the governor visited every part of Abia State to interact directly with residents, showcase his administration’s achievements and appreciate their support.

He noted that Otti had stopped at several locations before arriving at the rally venue, interacting with different groups whose enthusiastic reception, according to him, reflected their genuine love and appreciation for the governor.

In their separate goodwill messages, the member representing Isuikwuato/Umunneochi Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Amobi Ogah; Labour Party senatorial candidate for Abia North, Chief David Ogba Onuoha (Bourdex); member representing Umunneochi State Constituency in the Abia State House of Assembly, Hon. Mathias Ume Nwachi; and the Mayor of Umunneochi LGA, Mr. Sunny Afurobi, praised the governor for his administration’s achievements.

They particularly commended the government for its interventions in road infrastructure, healthcare delivery and security, claiming that the administration had executed projects that previous governments failed to accomplish in 24 years.

The political leaders urged Otti to remain focused despite opposition criticism, assuring him of the continued support of Umunneochi residents and their commitment to voting for Labour Party candidates in the 2027 general elections.
