The Anyichuks Campaign Office has criticised Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, over his failure to highlight the achievements of his administration during the Southeast presidential campaign flag-off of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Women’s Mobilisation held at Okpara Square, Enugu.
The campaign office described the governor’s remarks at the event as a reflection of what it called the lack of tangible accomplishments by his administration, despite nearly four years in office.
In a statement signed by Emmanuel Igwe, spokesperson for Anyichuks, the campaign office expressed disappointment that while the governors of Imo and Enugu states used the occasion to highlight projects and development initiatives undertaken in their respective states, Nwifuru reportedly devoted much of his speech to praising his Enugu counterpart, Peter Mbah.
According to the statement, the event presented an opportunity for the three governors to showcase their administrations’ achievements and demonstrate how public resources had been deployed to improve the living conditions of their people.
The campaign office questioned why Nwifuru failed to present his administration’s scorecard, particularly when he had the opportunity to address political leaders and party faithful from across the Southeast.
It recalled that the Ebonyi governor commended Mbah for initiatives aimed at promoting unity, developing skills and introducing innovations to empower women, but allegedly failed to provide a comparable account of his administration’s efforts to improve the welfare and economic fortunes of Ebonyi residents.
The office described the development as a missed opportunity, arguing that the governor’s remarks had further reinforced concerns about his administration’s performance.
It maintained that Ebonyi residents deserved more than political slogans, endorsements and appeals for votes, insisting that they should be able to assess their government through measurable improvements in infrastructure, education, healthcare, employment and economic opportunities.
The campaign office also questioned the significance of Nwifuru’s appeal to women to support the APC, as well as his declaration that the party had an open manifesto, arguing that residents were more interested in tangible governance outcomes than political promises.
It further linked the growing support for Anyichuks’ governorship aspiration to what it described as the people’s desire for a change in leadership and an administration that would prioritise their welfare.
“The growing support for Anyichuks is a reflection of the people’s hunger for a government that understands their struggles and is prepared to translate public resources into tangible benefits,” the statement said.
The campaign office added that Ebonyi could not afford another administration that merely occupied the Government House without delivering meaningful improvements in the lives of its citizens.
It said the state needed leadership capable of creating opportunities, empowering families, supporting businesses and ensuring that public resources directly benefited the people.
“Leadership is not about praising another governor for what he has accomplished. It is about being able to stand before your own people and account for what you have done with the mandate and resources entrusted to you,” the statement added.
The office consequently urged Ebonyi residents to look beyond party slogans and political endorsements and demand accountability, measurable performance and people-oriented governance.
It described Anyichuks as representing a new direction for Ebonyi State, expressing confidence that the state’s resources and human potential could be harnessed to improve the prosperity and well-being of its people.
The statement was signed by Emmanuel Igwe, spokesperson to Anyichuks.
